Our History
The company M.G. Commodities (Pty) Ltd was established by Makatleho Gladys Motsoasele in 2008, through her various entrepreneurial business ventures. Her desire for food packaging was inspired by the lack of food products packaged by black African businesses; being a business woman and an experienced caterer for many years, she identified an opportunity to have a packaging business that would create a household brand that would compete on an equal footing with the best in the market.
The company has been very specific and consistent on the quality of grains associated with its brand; and for the past five years has been packaging premium quality rice to service its customers at all levels of society. The concept has always been ‘buy bulk and pack into smaller consumable units’ to accommodate consumers at all levels in order to successfully build “the people’s brand”.The company has since been trading between Lesotho and South Africa; with the bulk of the business being channeled from South Africa to Lesotho. The South African registered entity has been functional as the procurement arm of the company and the Lesotho registered entity has been the factory and packaging operations of the company.
The current business premises in Lesotho have been maximized for a start-up business, which means there is a great need for the company to expand in order to meet the rising demand and grow new markets. Therefore a strategic decision was made by the company’s management, that new operations are necessary in Ladybrand, which is situated along the borders of South Africa and Lesotho. The new company in South Africa is registered as a level 3 contributor to B-BEE.
